Hollytrees Museum

By |

Hollytrees is a Grade 1 listed classic Georgian house, built in 1718. It is now a museum, with displays that illustrate life in Colchester in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It is also the home of the Colchester Visitor Information Centre.

At one time the house was the home of Charles Gray who was MP for Colchester. Gray is particularly remembered for his work in caring for Colchester castle which he owned, and which was in the gardens of his home.

Today the museum has a fascinating collection of toys, costume and decorative arts. This collection includes the Bernard Mason Clock Collection, and two dolls houses which have been popular with many generations of Colchester children. Entry to the museum is free of charge.
